Product variants and dosage

Nazaren nasal spray is a fast and comfortable solution when you or your children suffer from a stuffed up nose. Nazaren is prescription-free and is sold in pharmacies.

Good for

Nazaren nasal spray is a fast and safe solution when you have a stuffy nose. The active ingredient in Nazaren, xylometazolin, contracts the blood vessels in your nose. The reduced blood supply dampens both the swelling of your mucous membranes and your production of fluid, all of which helps to make it easier to breathe through your nose.

Nazaren is supplied in a patented bottle that makes sure the spray works every time, no matter how you hold it. You can also use the bottle upside down , for example if you are lying in a bed. The bottle’s vacuum solution also stops the bottle from being refilled with air as the Nazaren is sprayed out. This means that "contaminated" air cannot mix with the contents of the bottle.

Side effects and safety precautions

The more common side effects of Nazaren are a burning sensation in the nose or throat and dryness of the mucous membranes. Less common side effects are a local irritation in the nose and throat.

Using Nazaren over a long period may cause your nose to become congested again (the rebound effect). You can avoid this by never using the product for longer than is recommended (see dosage instructions).
Use Nazaren with care if you have high blood pressure or cardiovascular disease or if you have a disease of the thyroid gland. Consult your doctor before using Nazaren at the same time as certain antidepressant medicines (MAO inhibitors).

Do not use Nazaren if you are allergic to xylometazolin or any of the other ingredients in Nazaren. People who have taken certain medical procedures, or operations as they are casually described, should also avoid using Nazaren - ask your doctor for details. Nazaren is not recommended for people experiencing inflammations of the skin and mucous membranes of the nostrils other than colds and similar; for those encrustation (rhinitis sicca); or those suffering from a particular type of glaucoma.

Use Nazaren with care if you are pregnant. Avoid high doses and frequent use. Using Nazaren at the recommended dosage levels does not pose any risk to unborn babies (foetuses). Nazaren can be used when breast feeding – it is unlikely to have any effect on breast-feeding children.

Nazaren should not be used on children younger than two years old. Use Nazaren on infants as directed by a doctor.
