Wound treatment

Wounds are common both in children and adults. Early and repeated treatment is the key to fast and good healing.

Early treatment is essential

There are many types of wounds – from superficial wounds like bruises, blisters, cuts and scratches to more serious wounds. Bacteria can start infecting the wound immediately, so it is important to start treatment early.

Use ointments for treatment of wounds and diaper rash

If the wound is small, you can treat it yourself, for example with Pyrisept. Is the wound large or deep, you should contact your doctor.

Another common type of wound is diaper rash in small children adults in need of diapers. Diaper rash is an irritation of the skin caused by urine being transformed into ammonia that etches small holes in the skin. Thin/running feces can also etch the skin, as it contains more acid than normal. To treat diaper rash, Aselli ointment can be used.

FAQ

  • Who can use Pyrisept?

Pyrisept i suited for both children and adults. Allergic skin reactions are very rare. This is a product you can safely keep in your medicine cabinet.

  • How does Pyrisept work?

Pyrisept is a bactericide. It enters the bacteria or fungus cell and kills it. This prevents bacteria from reproducing in the wound, thus avoiding infection and pus. Pyrisept also contains EDTA, which makes it easier for the active ingredient cetylpyridinklorid to enter the bacteria or fungus and kill it.

  • What kind of wounds can I treat with Pyrisept?

Pyrisept can be used on all common wounds that typically result from physical activity, including bruises, blisters, cuts and scratches.

  • Should I use both Pyrisept solution and ointment?

Often it will be sufficient to use Pyrisept solution on bottle. It both cleanses and disinfects the wound. Sometimes it can be appropriate to use Pyrisept ointment in addition – for example when a compress or band aid is applied to the wound. The disinfecting ointment will protect against infections over time and you prevent the compress or band aid from sticking to the wound.

  • What is the shelf life of Pyrisept?

    5 years.

  • Can I apply Pyrisept in the ears?

Pyrisept should not be used inside the ear, but can very well be applied to the earlobe to cleanse and disinfect for instance related to piercing or holes for eardrops.

  • What is diaper rash?

Diaper rash – or nappy rash – is a condition where the skin in the diaper area is red and sore, sometimes with circular, skinless areas.

  • Why does diaper rash occur?

Diaper rash develops when urine reacts with bacteria to form ammonia, which etches small holes in the skin. Thin/running feces can also etch the skin, as it contains more acid than normal. Prevention is recommended, as diaper rash can be difficult to get rid of once it has occurred.

  • How can I prevent diaper rash?

There are two important remedies against diaper rash: Prevent ammonia from attacking the skin, and strengthen the skin’s protective ability. Both remedies are equally important, separately they normally solve the problem, together they are a sure fix.

To prevent etching acid from attacking the skin, it has to be neutralized. Nature’s own remedy, known for ages, is lanoline. Our grandmothers and great-grandmothers knew about this before the age of plastics and the diaper revolution. At that time, kids used textile diapers covered by woollen pants, keeping their skin dry, warm and healthy. Wool contains lanoline, which neutralizes ammonia and thus protects the skin. Many have taken up this tradition again, with good results. To strengthen the skin’s defence, you can also use an ointment containing lanoline.

  • What should I do if diaper rash occurs?

Should your child develop a diaper rash, there are more things you should do. First of all, avoid urine against the skin – let the child lie without diaper as often as possible. Apply the ointment before you put on the diaper and after washing. Avoid soap – use oil for washing instead. Don’t let skin get in contact with plastic.

Should the rash persist, you can apply crystal violet 0.5% liniment to the sore area (not to mucous membranes or open wounds) or hydrocortisone 1% cream. Apply the ointment also after this procedure.
