Pyrisept is a non-prescription medicine that is used for cleaning and disinfecting bruises, blisters, cuts and scratches.
The most important thing to do when treating bruises, blisters, cuts and scratches is to clean the area, in order to prevent or limit the growth of bacteria and fungi.
Pyrisept kills bacteria (it is a bactericide). It enters into the bacteria or fungus cells and kills them. This will stop bacteria reproducing in the wound, causing infection and pus. Pyrisept also contains EDTA, which helps the active ingredient cetylpyridinchloride to enter the bacteria or fungus cell more easily and kill it.
Pyrisept is a very practical treatment that can be used on typical wounds from physical activity, such as grazes, blisters, cuts and scratches.
Pyrisept is available as a solution or as an ointment and can be used by both adults and children.
Pyrisept should not be used in the ears, but can certainly be used on the ear lobe for cleaning and disinfection, for example in connection with ear piercing. Pyrisept should not be used in the eyes.
Pyrisept should not be used by persons who are allergic to any of the ingredients.
Pyrisept contains cetylpyridinchloride, which kills or inhibits the growth of a number of bacteria and fungi. Soap reduces the effect and must be rinsed off before using Pyrisept. Read the package insert before use.
